PROTECH QUEENSLAND PRE-APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM

About The Program

The Protech Pre-Apprenticeship program is aimed at school leavers and unemployed youth, providing them with an opportunity to gain entry into their desired industry of either Construction, Automotive or Engineering.

Open to all Queensland residents aged over 14 years, the fully-funded 18 week program provides the opportunity for participants to explore a new industry, while gaining valuable life and on-the-job experience to prepare them for the workforce and further qualifications.

The 18 week program consists of classroom-based life skills and RTO accredited training, followed by employment-based on-the-job training with Protech clients. At the end of the program, they receive a Certificate I in either Construction,  Automotive or Engineering.

The ultimate goal is for Protech to source a host employer during this time for the trainees to move into an apprenticeship of their desired trade post-program.

With the Construction, Automotive and Engineering industries suffering from skills shortages, the Protech Pre-Apprenticeship program will mould the next generation of workers into passionate, highly skilled individuals, who are wanting to pursue a career, obtain meaningful job experience, and improve their core employability skills.

Current Status of the Program

With 60 positions to fill, Protech followed the candidate market and found the largest interest from the youth sector was in the Construction industry. 48 candidates have been successfully placed into Construction programs across the Sunshine Coast, South Brisbane and Gold Coast, and all are currently undertaking on-the-job or classroom training. These trainees were split into four groups with staggered starts and will finalise their 18 week program in November – December. At present, all 48 participants are still undertaking the program.

The remaining 12 spots were filled with an Automotive group on the Sunshine Coast, who are currently completing training at TAFE before moving onto client sites for employment experience.

Protech’s workforce officers are providing close mentoring and support to all the participants over the coming months to ensure we retain these trainees and provide the best possible outcome for all.
